The Alexandra Canal stretches the 3.8km between the Cooks River at Sydney Airport, to Huntley Street in Alexandria.

NEWS:

June 2010:The State government of NSW refuses to allocate any funds towards the Alexandra Canal cycleway, which some years ago it promised to do, and Botany Council seems not to have much interest. Please write to Botany Council and ask them to complete the cycleway. Especially useful would be the completion of the section next to Qantas Catering between Coward Street and Ricketty Street.

Alexandra Canal was once a salt marsh known as Shea's Creek. Excavation began in 1887 to transform the marshland into a canal capable of carrying barges to transport goods from the nearby brickworks, woolen mills, tanneries and foundries.
